For as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to try out an airbrushing system. I mean who doesn't want that flawless, smooth finish when it comes to their makeup? I recently got the chance to try out the Luminess Air Airbrushing Kit and I'm going to break it down into sections to give you the low down on how I liked it, whether I think airbrushing is worth all the hype, how easy/complicated it is, the pros and cons and if I think it's worth the splurge.

THE EXPERIENCE
When I first received the airbrushing kit in the mail I was so excited to try it out! Going into it I thought it was a "turn it on, put a few drops of this in it and bam you're set", but it was a bit more complicated than that. Actually a lot more.
I had some issues with it when I first tried it out. The machine turned on and the spray gone was giving out air, but for some reason I couldn't get it to spray anY of the actual product out. I read the manual about 20 times, check the actual spray gun to see if it there was something stopping it up and I couldn't find anything. It had actually become frustrating at one point because I felt I was trying everything and nothing was working. I had thought I received a faulty one.
I didn't receive a faulty one, it worked perfectly fine. After re-reading the same section of the manual over and over and finding no solution, I went to my trusty best friend - youtube. I came across a video and finally found the solution. It's turns out the back screw wasn't as tight as it should've been, thus leading to the needle not being push through all the way and no product being dispersed. I took some pictures of what I'm talking about just incase any of you find yourself in the same position I was in.
You're going to want to hold your spray gun and unscrew the back end (the black part). Once that back part is off, you'll see this:
There is a screw on the back of the needle like this and what you're going to want to do is turn it and make sure it's as tight as it can be. Once you've done that, your spray gun should then start spraying out your product. I suggest using only water during this portion as it's a lot less messy and you're not wasting any of your product. If you find that this doesn't solve your issue, it may be that it's somehow clogged and you can simply clean it up.
Once I finally got it to work, I swear it felt like the clouds spread open, a light started shining down on me and I heard the beautiful "aaaaaaaaaah" playing gently in the background. Except it was nearly midnight when I figured it out, I was exhausted and there was definitely no soothing music playing in the background.
If your system comes set up correctly, or you set it up correctly yourself, the actual use of it is pretty easy. All you do is plug it in, place a few drops of your desired shade into the spray gun and lightly pull back the trigger to get the product to spray out.

IS IT WORTH IT?
Aside from the little predicament I found myself in and the fact that it's pretty difficult to find your correct shade online (they do offer a way to send in pictures to be color matched!), the airbrushing system was actually pretty good. Not only does it make the application of makeup a lot less boring and tedious, but the overall finish/outcome is literally flawless. It's so smooth and makes you look baby soft.
Do I think it's worth the $100/$200+ price tag? Eh, I don't know. For me personally, I just don't think I could justify spending that much money. When you think realistically though, some people are paying that much for two regular bottles of "high-end" foundation. I use a $10 drugstore foundation, so in my eyes I see it as 10 bottles that can last me a long, long time.
Honestly, it really just depends on your day to day lifestyle and if you have that money to dish out. I genuinely do love the airbrushing kit and the finish it gives is amazing - so if you can do it, got for it! Buy the kit, but buy bigger bottles of foundation. The bigger bottles should last you a bit considering you're only needing a few drops each application.
If you're wanting to branch out into new methods of applying makeup, replacing an old airbrushing kit or just want an application method that'll give you that celebrity look for special occasions - this kit is your answer. I have a discount code for 20% off your purchase, just use it at checkout and it'll be applied. I'm not getting compensation for it or anything like that, they were just nice enough to give me a code and if you were already thinking about buying it or are now, why not save some
money?

Kristina,
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that I finally found a post about this airbrush system because I was really looking into it but I wanted to see how well it worked. It is definitely unfortunate that they do not have more shades, I am hoping that the company will be willing to branch out in that area cause I know plenty of people who would try this system. Thanks for the review!

Yeah, the shade selection is really the only downside (aside from the price haha). It's super cool though!
DeleteHope you're doing good, Angelica :)
